Based in Loreauville Louisiana, Gator-Tail Outboards is the vision of Kyle and Blaine Broussard. While Kyle was finishing his degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Louisiana, the concept for Gator-Tail Outboards was born. As a die-hard duck hunter Kyle knew about the challenges of accessing duck hunting spots in the winter when water levels were low in the marsh. While there were air-cooled motors available they weren’t exactly efficient, fast, or easy to maneuver. After working as an outboard mechanic for three years he began to get ideas of a better way to build an air-cooled motor that could propel through shallow water and mud. He took the basic concept to his father, Blaine Broussard. Blaine was a forward-thinking engineer in his own right. In. 1980 Blaine left his plant engineering position with Morton Chemical Company and opened a full service company called BESCO repairing, remanufacturing and manufacturing cables and products for the seismic industry. Through ingenuity and imagination, Kyle and Blaine were able to build the first GatorTail. This unique patented design was the first mud motor of its kind to hit the market. Kyle and Blaine’s innovative solution provides increased thrust and drivability, while delivering relatively maintenance free operation.
Gator-Tail Outboards is truly in a class by itself when it comes to on-site fabrication and production. Because we own, operate and maintain a fully equipped shop we can provide the highest quality products at very competitive prices. All design work is conducted in our CAD/CAM engineering department, where we employ a staff of degreed engineers with many years of experience designing and building products and solutions for the petroleum industry.
Our engineering personnel are highly skilled and hold several patents for their unique and innovative designs. We operate a fully equipped CNC machine shop as well as a full aluminum boat manufacturing facility.
